An Epitome of Internationalism: Highlights of Roundsquare Week 2024 at the International Community School
The International Community School, on both campuses, celebrated Roundsquare Week 2024 from Monday, 29th January to Friday, 2nd February. The resonant theme, “There is more in us than we know,” focused on drawing the learners’ attention to the untapped potential within each learner.
Parade of Nations and Leadership Dress-Up Day:
The festivities commenced with the colourful Parade of Nations, where students proudly showcased the cultural diversity of the school by wearing jerseys of different countries. This display of internationalism, a cornerstone of the Roundsquare ideals, set the tone for a week filled with meaningful interactions and cultural exchange.
Adding a unique touch to the celebration, learners embraced the opportunity to dress up as the leaders they aspire to become in the future. This imaginative exercise not only encouraged creativity but also prompted students to reflect on their ambitions and the qualities they admire in leaders.
Keynote Addresses by Distinguished Speakers:
Roundsquare Week 2024 featured renowned keynote speakers, Mr. Evans Mensah of Multimedia and Lawyer Yaw Boafo, President of the Ghana Bar Association. Their addresses provided valuable insights and guidance to students on both campuses.
Lawyer Yaw Boafo, in his keynote speech, urged students to embrace diligence and hard work, emphasizing that success is a result of sustained effort and dedication. He emphasized the importance of upholding values such as integrity, dignity, respect, kindness, and teamwork, asserting that these virtues serve as catalysts for personal and professional growth.
Intellectually Stimulating Scavenger Hunt and MUN Debates:
To spice up the celebration, students dressed up in green and engaged in an intellectually stimulating scavenger hunt, challenging their problem-solving skills and fostering teamwork. This activity not only promoted critical thinking but also encouraged collaborative learning.
The event climaxed on Friday, where we had Model United Nations (MUN) debates. Learners actively participated in topical debates, showcasing their research, public speaking, and diplomacy skills. The event served as a platform for students to express their views on global issues and develop a deeper understanding of diplomatic processes. The climax also had students and parents engage in painting and art exhibitions. The day ended with a Food Bazaar, offering a delightful array of culinary delights from various countries. This gastronomic showcase allowed students to appreciate and experience the diverse cuisines within their school community.
Words from the Deputy Director:
On Friday, the Deputy Director, Mrs Matilda Yeboah, presented a poignant address, underlining the profound lessons embedded in our students’ representations of many countries. Mrs. Yeboah emphasized the value of tolerance and respect that cultural diversity offers, seeing it as an essential component of the educational experience. In her incisive reflections, she pushed the school community to uncover their untapped potential, noting that self-discovery requires a willingness to avail oneself and genuinely recognize who they are.
