Introducing Oppidan Education’s First-Ever Africa Peer Mentorship Programme

On February 3rd, 2024, the International Community School (ICS) in partnership with Oppidan Education launched an innovative  Peer Mentorship Programme. This initiative is the first of its kind in Africa, setting the stage for transformative student engagement and development.

The primary objective of this program is to develop leadership skills in students, helping them acquire abilities that go beyond the conventional academic sphere. Through peer mentorship, senior students at ICS will not only enhance their own skills but will also connect with their peers across various campuses, leading to a vibrant and supportive school community. 

The team from Oppidan Education, led by Henry Faber, co-founder of Oppidan Education, focused on the development of essential soft skills, such as empathy and active listening. These skills, often overlooked in traditional academic settings, are crucial for personal growth and future success.

Oppidan Education, renowned for its international mentoring and tutoring services, has collaborated with some of the leading schools in the U.K., including Harrow, Eton, and Dulwich College. Bringing their expertise to ICS, Oppidan’s mentorship approach is designed to enhance academic performance and instill key soft skills, aligning perfectly with the ideals of ICS

By pairing older students with younger peers, the program aims to create a supportive network that benefits the entire school community. Not only do younger students receive guidance and mentorship, but senior students also develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility.

As the collaboration between ICS and Oppidan Education develops, it is evident that this project will have a lasting impact on Africa’s educational landscape. The Peer Mentorship Program aims to develop tomorrow’s leaders by fostering a community in which all students can flourish and lead to the best of their abilities.
